In the waning years of the Third Era of Tamriel, a prisoner born on a certain day to uncertain parents was sent under guard, without explanation, to Morrowind, ignorant of the role he was to play in that nations history...

...your eyes open to see swirling crimson ash engulfing a barren landscape. As you begin walking, a female voice echoes clearly through your skull.

"They have taken you from the Imperial City's prison, first by carriage and now by boat, to the East, to Morrowind. Fear not, for I am watchful. You have been chosen."

A banner flutters in the storm, Daedric written on it. As you grab it, the words change to Imperial:  Many fall, but one remains.

A thunder crack, and the sky changes to that of a calm, rainy night, the twin moons Secunda and Masser reflected in the pools of rainwater. A bald dunmer looks at you. Thunder strikes again, and the man is gone. Another voice, this one deep, gravely, and just behind you.

"Wake up! We're here. Why are you shaking? Are you okay? Wake up."

...you open your eyes and see the bald dunmer from before grabbing you by the shoulder, trying to shake you awake. The other prisoner who's holed up in here with you. Jiub, you seem to recall is his name.

"Stand up," he offers his hand as he does the same. "There you go. You were dreaming. What's your name?"

You mutter your name, still half asleep, barely audible or coherent enough for the dunmer to distinguish. He grunts at your response, not bothering to wait for a proper answer.

"Well, not even last night's storm could wake you. I heard them say we've reached Morrowind. I'm sure they'll let us go." You are not quite so hopeful. You've heard tales of Vvardenfell being a dangerous, backwater hellhole where they send people to die or go crazy, the only ones choosing to live there being the dark elves who call the place home. You have a suspicion that even the dunmer fall into one of those two categories though.

As you are lost in thought, you almost don't notice the creaking footfalls on the deck above you, heading for the ladderwell at the other end of the corridor they've designated as the "prisoners' lodging". Jiub mutters to quiet down as the guard approaches.

"This is where you get off. Come with me." The guard leads you up to the final ladderwell. As he unlocks your manacles, another guard, a female, watches you, her hand ready on her blade, obviously ready to cut you down if you attempt anything. As the final shackle comes off, the first guard instructs you to get on deck, and to keep things as civil as possible. The female chimes in, saying that the sooner you leave, the sooner they can move on. You resist the urge to do something drastic with your new found freedom.

You emerge to see the green shores of the Bitter Coast, the sparkling blue waters of the Inner Sea and plenty of sunshine and clear skies. Huh. You'd only ever heard terrible things about the weather and landscape of this place, with frequent ashstorms and barren wasteland. But here there are neither. You hear a low moaning sound, almost like a whale. You turn towards the source of it and find a huge chitinous...thing standing next to a cliff atop several long, spindly legs. A redguard, noticing your confused expression, explains that it's nothing to worry about. Silt striders, he says, the dunmer use them to transport people and goods from city to city. You've only ever heard tales of such things. To see one, even from this distance, is honestly rather terrifying. The redguard tells you to head down to the dock, and they'll show you to the census office.

You leave the ship and are approached by another Imperial Guardsman. "You've finally arrived, but our records don't show from where..."
